SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - A 19-year-old man has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and four other offences after police seized what they call a "sizeable" amount of marijuana and cash from a home in Yellowknife.

Using a search warrant, the RCMP entered a home in the Sissons Court area last Friday around 11:30 p.m.

In the raid some 30 grams of marijuana was seized along with drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of cash, said Const. Todd Scaplen.

When asked the total amount of money and paraphernalia seized, Scaplen wouldn't say exactly what was found due to the ongoing investigation.

"It's part of the evidence so I can't give specifics," he said Monday morning.

The accused is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, obstructing a peace officer and two counts of breaching a probation order.

Scaplen said the breaches of probation stem from a probation order issued in Newfoundland and were not related to any crimes committed in the territory.

Two other people in the house at the time of the raid, a 21-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, both of Yellowknife, were arrested and charged but later released.

Both will appear in court at a later date.
