NDP leadership candidates at the U of M

This week two federal NDP leadership candidates, MP for Churchill, Man. Niki Ashton as well as MP for Parkdale-High Park (Toronto) and former President of the NDP Peggy Nash, stopped by the University of Manitoba on their campaign trail. The Manitoban had the opportunity to interview both Ashton and Nash. Here is a portion of those interviews:

NDP Leadership Candidates' Responses to End Prohibition Survey
End Prohibition is a national group of New Democrats working to end the prohibition on marijuana and stop Canada's failed war on drugs.
Founded in 2004, our group now has over 1200 members nationwide and we’ve had a presence at over two dozen provincial and federal NDP conventions across Canada.
Over the past decade, resolutions supporting drug policy reform have been passed by the NDP provincially in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and the Yukon.
As NDP Leader, Jack Layton said he was in favour of reforming our country’s cannabis laws, and creating a legal environment where adults can enjoy cannabis without having to worry about being criminalized. Read more »
Harper must extend funding to Aboriginal Healing Foundation: Ashton

OTTAWA – New Democrat MP Niki Ashton (Churchill) is making a last-minute appeal directly to the Prime Minister to extend the funding for the Aboriginal Healing Foundation.
"The Aboriginal Healing Foundation has given healing and hope to survivors, their families and their communities for ten years but the need for healing is not over,” says Ashton. “We are appealing to the Prime Minister to save the Aboriginal Healing Foundation."
The AHF provide resources which promote reconciliation and encourage and support Aboriginal people and their communities in building and reinforcing sustainable healing processes that address the legacy of physical, sexual, mental, cultural, and spiritual abuses in the residential school system, including intergenerational impacts.
