Why Did Vancouver Police Destroy This Private Property?

Jeremiah Vandermeer

Last month, for the first time in Vancouver's history, police raided a medical marijuana dispensary within the city limits. During the raid, for reasons unknown, members of the VPD drug squad destroyed some expensive property.

When cops came busting through the door at iMedikate's Renfrew St. location and arrested the 60-year-old manager, they didn't ask her to open the non-profit group's large, $2000 safe or the door to the office upstairs.

Though police confiscated the manager's keys, they decided to kick down the locked office door and completely destroy the dispensary's safe. Read more »

Federal prosecutor still against pot dispensaries

David Klepper

Rhode Island's top federal prosecutor said Monday that federal authorities have not endorsed a proposal to allow medical marijuana dispensaries to open and remain opposed to large-scale distributers.

Supporters of a compromise to allow the state-sanctioned dispensaries to open with new limits on their operation said they never expected the federal government to openly back their proposal. The new rules are meant to ensure the dispensaries don't face criminal drug prosecutions. Read more »

Miley Cyrus Visits Marijuana Dispensary In Los Angeles

Huffington Post

Self-proclaimed "stoner," Bob Marley fan and salvia connoisseur Miley Cyrus was photographed leaving a Sherman Oaks, Calif., marijuana dispensary with a friend this week.

The 19-year-old actress and pop star looked casual in denim cut-offs and a Pat Benatar T-shirt, when X17online.com snapped some photos of her and a pal exiting Therapeutic Health Care. Cyrus didn't seem worried about being spotted outside the dispensary since medical marijuana is legal in California for anyone with a prescription.

We can't say for sure if Cyrus bought anything but she has developed a reputation as a marijuana enthusiast after a video from her 19th birthday party leaked.

Vancouver's First Medical Marijuana Dispensary Raid

In the first of its kind in the city since medical marijuana dispensaries began opening about 15 years ago, Vancouver police conducted a raid on the storefront location of a med-pot supplier on Tuesday, seizing cannabis and computers and arresting the 60-year-old manager.

Several undercover and uniformed VPD officers stormed the Renfrew Street location of the iMedikate dispensary on February 21 and informed the manager that she was "under arrest for trafficking." Read more »

Burnaby Marijuana dispensary closes, hemp shop takes its place

Janaya Fuller-Evans

Burnaby's first hemp shop has risen from the ashes of the medical marijuana dispensary in Metrotown, which closed following an RCMP raid last summer.

Britney Anne, former director of the Metrotown Medicinal Society, has done everything possible to reopen as a completely legal business, she said in an interview in the new shop last week.

The Burnaby dispensary is no more. Britney Anne and shop staff kept the doors open following the raid on July 28, to let patients know they would have to go elsewhere for medical marijuana, finally closing on Aug. 31.

Jordan Kuyvenhoven, who was working in the shop on the day of the raid, said it was done respectfully.

"They parked a van out front," she said. "It was quiet when it happened." Read more »

Langley: Marijuana dispensary serves a vital need

I am writing this letter to you in hopes that you can help me. I am a mother of four children, and an employee in the City of Langley. I am also a student and a law-abiding and contributing member of our community.

A year ago my doctor recommended the use of medicinal marijuana for treating some of my health issues. I was having terrible side effects from the medications I had been using and was open to trying anything to reduce my symptoms.

I had lost 70 pounds within six months and was having tremors and terrible stomach problems from the medications I was on. I contacted the Langley Medical Marijuana Dispensary, after reading an article in the newspaper about them.

I appreciated how I could potentially gain access to safe affordable medicine. I met with them and began the process to become a member.

Like the pharmaceuticals I was prescribed, it was a process figuring out which types of cannabis worked best for me. The people at the LMMD were very helpful and knowledgeable and I felt relief from many of my symptoms almost immediately. Read more »
